What Airworthiness Really Means

Beyond Maintenance - Ensuring Aircraft Remain Fit to Fly

In the simplest of terms, airworthiness determines how suitable any given aircraft is to take flight. Putting it that way, it seems easy enough to ensure you do the necessary checks, get the aircraft certified to fly, and it’s all clear for take off.

That is not a mindset practiced at Galaxy Aerospace. To be considered truly airworthy, every inch of the craft has to comply with two key specifications:

  1. Conforming to its approved type design
  2. In a condition fit for safe operation

Maintenance, when not done up to standard, is still grounds for poor airworthiness. Think of your regular car maintenance at a given mileage. How often do you go for checks? Is your mechanic dutifully logging their remarks? What about the parts: are your replacements genuine, obtained from authorised retailers? The same goes for aircraft.

Miss a maintenance task, don’t address aircraft directives (ADs), make unapproved repairs, or leave defects unresolved? Any single one of these invalidates airworthiness. As an authorised Civil Aviation Organisation (CAMO) and Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), Galaxy Aerospace plays a critical role in bridging that gap between “maintained” and “fit to fly” through rigorous checks, compliance monitoring and certification of approved maintenance tasks. Thanks to their expertise and oversight, you can have full confidence in the functionality and safety of your craft.

Of course, regulations are one part of the process. Galaxy Aerospace applies similar principles to their staff, with the importance of safety culture deeply ingrained in the team. Training does not stop at ensuring they have the right qualifications, as they must be capable of applying that knowledge in a practical setting.

Similarly to the aircraft they oversee, individual team members have to be aligned with understanding standard procedures lest a small error balloons into a major risk. The human factor cannot be disregarded even when working amongst machines. It is testament to the skill and quiet dedication of personnel at organisations like Galaxy Aerospace, that humans can continue to reach for the sky, and return safely to terra firma.
