Vertex Mission Sdn. Bhd. has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Excellence in Road Safety Solutions category at the Transports Expo Asia (TXA) Awards 2026, with its road safety initiatives combining fleet-wide technology, driver development and systematic vehicle inspections to address the risks of heavy-vehicle operations

Established in 2005, Vertex Mission operates approximately 100 prime movers and nearly 400 trailers, transporting containers across Peninsular Malaysia. With heavy vehicles travelling long distances and operating under demanding schedules, managing driver fatigue, speeding and mechanical faults is a daily operational challenge.

Turning Safety Assessments into Measurable Progress

A key strength of Vertex Mission’s road safety efforts is the evidence of improvement verified through regulatory and customer assessments.

In December 2025, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) of Selangor assessed the company under the Industry Code of Practice for Safety (ICOP Keselamatan). Vertex Mission scored 59 out of 69 points, or 86%, met all seven mandatory requirements and received a PATUH (compliant) rating.

Its customer, palm-based oleochemical manufacturer KLK OLEO, also reported improvements in its transporter road safety assessments. Vertex Mission’s overall score increased from 3.26 out of 4.00 in 2022 to 3.76 out of 4.00 in a subsequent assessment. In that assessment, the company achieved a full score of 4.00 out of 4.00 for driver management. Both assessments earned a Grade A rating, qualifying Vertex Mission for the longest permitted audit interval of 24 months.

These results reflect more than compliance on paper. Following earlier reviews, the company introduced real-time speeding alerts and a permit-to-work system for high-risk workshop activities, demonstrating how identified weaknesses can lead to operational changes.

Making Technology Part of Everyday Driving

Vertex Mission’s road safety efforts combine AI-powered monitoring with preventive checks to identify potential hazards before they lead to incidents.

In April 2026, the company completed the installation of artificial intelligence (AI) dashcams across its entire prime mover fleet, following a 10-unit trial. The cameras detect drowsiness, mobile phone use, lane departure and harsh braking, while providing collision warnings. The safety team reviews alerts and notifies drivers of risks, with 32,672 alerts recorded in one week, from 27 August to 2 September 2026.

Safety checks also begin before each journey. Before receiving a job, drivers must use a company-provided smartphone app to complete a pre-trip inspection covering more than 60 checkpoints, photographing any defects identified. A safety officer must then approve the vehicle before it can leave the premises. This process combines digital reporting with direct oversight, helping the company identify potential problems before they become road hazards.

Extending Safety Beyond the Company

Driver development and vehicle maintenance remain equally important. Vertex Mission sends drivers for annual Hino track training, covering hazard anticipation and emergency braking in 2024, night driving in 2025, and turning and overhead bridge clearance in 2026. Since 2019, the company has also arranged for PUSPAKOM’s mobile inspection unit to conduct statutory roadworthiness tests at its Westport workshop once or twice a week.

Beyond its own fleet, Managing Director Soo Chee Yeong serves as President of the Association of Malaysian Hauliers (AMH), providing an avenue to share industry experience. In October 2025, the company demonstrated driver monitoring and advanced driver assistance technology to association members and received a letter of appreciation.

Vertex Mission’s Road Safety initiatives, recognised as a finalist at the TXA Awards 2026, reflect an approach built on measurable performance, consistent driver training and practical risk controls. Its experience shows that effective road safety solutions require more than advanced equipment; they depend on systems that identify risks, hold people accountable and make safer decisions part of every journey.
