The largest wind farm in the Southeast Asia region will be developed in Laos by Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan. The 600-megawatt onshore project is said to power sufficient wind energy to cater to Vietnamese’s growing electricity demand, especially during dry seasons.
According to a statement by Mitsubishi Corporation, the wind power plant will be built in the southern provinces of Sekong and Attapeu.
The project is part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreed between the Vietnamese and Laos Government on both nation’s power interchange.
A dedicated transmission line will be installed in Vietnam, and is expected to be the first cross-border electricity interchange from wind power generation in Southeast Asia. The project is slated to begin operations in 2023.
