STT GDC Partners with ABB to Mitigate Industry Carbon Footprint

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), together with Switzerland’s technology company – ABB, are collaborating to run a pilot on artificial intelligence (AI) energy optimisation.

The pilot project aims to leverage on AI and machine learning (ML) technology and advanced analytics to optimise energy use within a data centre, and at the same time reduce the industry carbon footprint.

With the partnership, STT GDC will leverage on ABB’s expertise in robotics, power, heavy electrical equipment, AI-generated insights, and automation technology.

Daniel Pointon, STT GDC Group Chief Technology Officer said that the organisation is thrilled to be working with ABB on this pilot project, intending to transform data centres to be net carbon-neutral by 2030.

“During the review of the pilot results, we will also assess future AI-based applications such as predictive maintenance, capacity management, security analytics and other business processes in our considerations,” he added.

The project is estimated to complete in 12 months, with an expected reduction of 1,100 tons of carbon in the atmosphere for every 10MW of IT load utilised.
