Brunei is actively implementing the development of cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), AI, 5G and other digital technologies. The nation’s Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, Datuk Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Datuk Paduka Mohd Yusof, said that the initiative would further drive innovation and sustainable progress in the country.
The initiative also aims to promote high-speed technology and further stimulate 5G within the community in Brunei. Upon seeing a significant increase in digital usage by the community, the nation will continuously strengthen regional cooperation in the areas such as cybersecurity and ASEAN digital data governance.
In June 2020, the Government Digital Economic Council launched Brunei’s first five-year masterplan to become a Smart Nation. 17 projects are expected to be implemented, including the public transport information system, national business service platform, school network infrastructure, and Halal certification system.
