PLAYERS FROM PERLIS, JOHOR, SABAH AND SARAWAK JOIN YOUNG AND OLD BLADERS AND FAMILIES AT NINE DAY NATIONAL TOURNAMENT IN SUNWAY WANGSA MALL

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 SEPTEMBER 2026 — The BEYBLADE X MERDEKA CUP 2026 concluded on 6 September at Sunway Wangsa Mall, bringing together more than 5,600 participants, with players travelling from across Malaysia, from Perlis and Johor, to Sabah and Sarawak, marking a major milestone in the development of Beyblade X as an organised competitive sport in Malaysia.

The Elite Grand Finals on Sunday, 6 September, were officiated by Mr Azmi Abdullah, Senior Deputy Director, Tourism Malaysia. The event was also attended by Mr. Ochiai Kiyoshi, Managing Director of TOMY ASIA, representing the regional BEYBLADE X brand team. The tournament concluded with the presentation of the RM30,000 prize pool that includes cash prizes, Beyblade X Exclusive products, and Beyblade X official merchandise courtesy of Kelab Gasing Beyblade Malaysia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Azmi Abdullah highlighted the potential of community-driven events such as the Merdeka Cup to contribute to Malaysia’s event tourism, noting that families travelling from different states had the opportunity to stay, dine, and spend locally while participating in the tournament. This would also support the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 campaign, by showcasing Malaysia as a vibrant destination for sports, family travels and global events.

“I see great potential for us to go further. Why not dream of an international Beyblade Open Championship in the future? If we are able to attract participants from neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, as well as Japan and Australia, to compete in Malaysia, it would certainly stimulate the tourism sector and put our country on the international stage.”

The presence of TOMY ASIA at the Grand Finals also reflected the growing connection between Malaysia’s grassroots BEYBLADE X community and the wider regional BEYBLADE X community.

The nine-day tournament, held from 29 August to 6 September 2026, attracted players ranging from seven to 60 years old, alongside families and BEYBLADE X fans from across the country.

Organised by Kelab Gasing Beyblade, the Merdeka Cup aims to demonstrate how a community-driven sporting movement can provide young Malaysians with opportunities to compete, develop skills, build friendships, and participate in structured sporting activities.

NATIONAL COMPETITION WITH RM30,000 PRIZE POOL

The highlight of the Merdeka Cup is its national-level competitive tournament, featuring two main divisions:

BEYBLADE X Under 12 Category – providing a competitive platform for young players to develop their skills and experience organised sporting competition.

BEYBLADE X Elite Category – bringing together experienced and competitive players to compete at a higher level.

The tournament offered a total prize pool valued at RM30,000, adding further excitement and competitive value to the event.

The championship culminated with the crowning of the nation’s top BEYBLADE X players in two competition categories.

The Under-12 title was won by eight year old Aqif Nur Iman Bin Muhd Fakhrul Rabbani of Pahang, with ten year old Arissa Nur Addin Binti Muhd Fakhrul Rabbani of Pahang, his older sister, finishing second.

In the Elite Category, 24 year old Tan Yi Xian from Wilayah Persekutuan claimed the national title with Wizard rod 1-60 Hexa, Shark scale 3-60 J, and Red Aero Pegasus 1-70 LR while 32 year old Maverick Chiong of Selangor finished as runner-up with his Wizard rod 1-60 Hexa, Shark scale 1-50 Rush, and Hellsnether Freeball.

BUILDING BEYBLADE X AS A SPORT IN MALAYSIA

Kelab Gasing Beyblade is also expanding its KSGB School Programme to introduce Beyblade X through structured school-based activities, teacher and judge training, and pathways leading to district, state and national competitions.

Shahril Ramli, Hon. Secretary of Kelab Gasing Beyblade, said:

“The Merdeka Cup is not simply about organising one large Beyblade tournament. It represents our long-term commitment to developing BEYBLADE X as a sport in Malaysia. We want to build the sport from the community upwards, create opportunities for young players to develop, and establish a pathway that connects schools, families, clubs, and competitive tournaments.”

GROWING THE SPORT THROUGH THE COMMUNITY

At the heart of Kelab Gasing Beyblade development strategy is the BEYBLADE X community.

Community tournaments, workshops, player activities, and trained volunteers provide opportunities for new players to discover the sport while experienced players can continue developing their skills.

Throughout the nine-day campaign, visitors were able to enjoy a range of activities, including a pop-up sales booth featuring BEYBLADE X products and merchandise, opportunities for members to purchase limited-edition Beyblade products, and mini contests with special prizes and lucky draws.

These activities are designed to make the event accessible not only to competitive players, but also to families, newcomers, and the wider BEYBLADE X community.

As a neighbourhood mall, Sunway Wangsa Mall is committed to creating spaces and experiences that bring families and communities together. Its partnership with Kelab Gasing Beyblade for the Merdeka Cup 2026 reflects this commitment, providing a platform for the growing Beyblade X community to connect, compete, and introduce the sport to more families across Klang Valley and Malaysia.

Ms. Ai Vee Tan, Head Of Strategic Marketing and Tenants Relations, Sunway Malls, said:

“We are seeing an exciting response from Bladers and families at the mall, with visitors coming from all over Malaysia to compete in the largest Beyblade X national tournament. For Sunway Wangsa Mall, this event reflects our role as a community hub where families can come together, connect, and share experiences. We are proud to create a space where a passionate group of fans can gather, while bringing an event of national significance closer to the families who call this neighbourhood home.”

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

The BEYBLADE X MERDEKA CUP 2026 is made possible through the support and collaboration of strategic partners across the venue, media, production, entertainment and BEYBLADE X ecosystem.

Sunway Wangsa Mall serves as the Official Venue Sponsor Partner, providing the platform for this major sporting and community event.

The event is further supported through strategic collaboration involving Media Prima, Astro, One Universal Production (OUP), Animasia Studio, Prestasi, TAKARA TOMY and ADK.

Together, these partnerships bring together venue, media, production, entertainment, brand and community capabilities, helping Kelab Gasing Beyblade deliver and grow the Merdeka Cup as a significant platform for the development of Beyblade X in Malaysia.

DEVELOPING THE KSGB SCHOOL PROGRAMME

A major focus of Kelab Gasing Beyblade long-term development is the expansion of the Kelab Gasing Beyblade (KSGB) School Programme.

The programme is designed to introduce BEYBLADE X into the school environment through structured activities that combine sport, strategy, teamwork, and personal development.

Through the school programme, students can learn the fundamentals of BEYBLADE X, participate in school-based activities and progress towards inter-school, district, state and national competitions.

Kelab Gasing Beyblade also aims to support schools by developing teacher and judge training, sporting modules, equipment packages and competition opportunities, creating a sustainable framework for schools to establish their own BEYBLADE X activities.

A YEARLY MERDEKA SPORTING EVENT

Following the success and participation of the 2026 edition, Kelab Gasing Beyblade plans to establish the BEYBLADE X MERDEKA CUP as an annual event, creating a recurring national platform for players and communities to come together every year during the Merdeka season.

The annual event will provide an opportunity to measure the continued growth of the sport, recognise outstanding players and schools, strengthen community participation, and introduce new programmes and initiatives.

MORE THAN A TOURNAMENT — BUILDING A SPORTING ECOSYSTEM

For Kelab Gasing Beyblade, the Merdeka Cup represents one part of a much larger vision.

The organisation’s long-term objective is to develop a complete BEYBLADE X sporting ecosystem covering:

COMMUNITY → SCHOOL → DISTRICT → STATE → NATIONAL → INTERNATIONAL

Through continued investment in players, schools, teachers, judges, tournaments, rankings and community programmes, Kelab Gasing Beyblade aims to create a sustainable pathway for the next generation of BEYBLADE X players in Malaysia.

With more than 5,600 participants taking part in the 2026 Merdeka Cup, KSGB believes the foundation for a strong and growing BEYBLADE X sporting community has already begun.
