On 29 October 2026, Japan and Singapore marked 60 years of diplomatic ties at the Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit with 12 new MOUs between companies and institutions, covering cultivated meat, land-based aquaculture and personalised nutrition. A renewed government agreement now puts food tech at the heart of food security.

SINGAPORE, 29 October 2026 – Morus Inc. (CEO: Ryo Sato; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter “Morus”), a Japanese company developing novel nutrition ingredients, and BUZUD Singapore Pte. Ltd. (hereinafter “BUZUD”), a Singapore connected-health company offering continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) alongside a wide range of other health monitoring devices, today announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) before ministerial-level representatives of the Japanese and Singaporean governments. Morus was one of the twelve partnerships selected to present at the Japan–Singapore Agri-Food Innovation MOU Announcement Ceremony, a flagship event marking 60 years of diplomatic relations, organised by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on the main stage of the Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit 2026 at Suntec City Convention Centre.

Announced before senior government leaders of both countries

At the ceremony, the governments of Japan and Singapore first presented their signed Memorandum of Cooperation on agri-food. Ryo Sato, CEO and Founder of Morus, and Frankie Fan, CEO and Founder of BUZUD, then announced their MOU on stage before an open press audience, in the presence of Mr Shinya Fujiki, State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, and Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment of Singapore. H.E. Koji Ishikawa, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, also took part in the ceremony.

Mr Sato also presented the collaboration at the Summit’s MOU partner session later that day.

What the MOU covers

The MOU sets out a two-year framework for the companies to advance health in Singapore through food, contributing to food resilience and nutrition security and supporting healthier daily habits. It combines Morus’s nutrition ingredients with BUZUD’s CGM devices and data platform. The companies intend to cooperate in four areas:

– Integrated nutrition and connected-health programmes for individuals in Singapore, allowing users to compare their own glucose data before and after a nutrition intervention.

– A Singapore glucose monitoring study reflecting the country’s multi-ethnic dietary habits, to objectively evaluate how Morus’s ingredients relate to metabolic health.

– ASEAN expansion of the research, building an independent, cross-market body of evidence.

– Ecosystem engagement with research, clinical and academic institutions in Singapore and the region.

Morus intends to contribute its ingredients, nutritional science expertise and input to study design. BUZUD intends to contribute CGM and biomarker measurement, its digital health platform and analytics, participant support, and its research network. The MOU is non-binding, and specific projects will be set out in separate agreements.

Building on discussions since April

Morus and BUZUD began discussing business development in Singapore around April 2026, including joint offerings that pair Morus’s nutrition ingredients with BUZUD’s monitoring devices. The companies confirmed their intent in a Letter of Intent signed on 4 September 2026, which this MOU builds on. Discussions have covered programme design for consumers in Singapore, the scope of a local glucose monitoring study, and a roadmap for extending the work to other ASEAN markets.

Why it matters for Japan, Singapore and ASEAN

Healthier everyday diets and long-term nutrition security are shared priorities for Japan, Singapore and Southeast Asia.

The collaboration brings together two strengths. Japan contributes food science and new nutrition resources rooted in its agricultural heritage. Singapore contributes connected-health technology and its role as a regional hub. Together, they aim to make the link between food and health measurable and personal, rather than abstract.

The collaboration also supports the countries’ wider cooperation on agri-food technology and food security. It positions Singapore as a launching point for evidence-based nutrition across ASEAN, and shows how Japanese agri-food innovation can contribute to food resilience and nutrition security abroad.

Comments

“Japan and Singapore share a challenge: helping people stay healthy through what they eat every day. By pairing Japanese nutrition science with BUZUD’s connected-health platform, we want people to better understand their own daily habits through their own data. We are honoured to announce this collaboration in the 60th anniversary year, and we see Singapore as our starting point for ASEAN.”

— Ryo Sato, CEO and Founder, Morus Inc.

“The future of healthcare begins not in hospitals, but with the choices we make at every meal. At BUZUD, we believe prevention must be proactive, personalised, accessible and driven by scientific evidence. Our strategic collaboration with Morus brings together Japanese nutritional innovation and Singapore’s advanced continuous glucose monitoring and connected-health ecosystem to transform everyday dietary choices into actionable health insights.

By understanding how our diverse, multi-ethnic Asian diets influence glucose responses, we aim to empower individuals to take greater ownership of their health, support healthcare professionals with meaningful real-world evidence, and advance the prevention and management of chronic diseases.

Our ambition extends beyond technology and borders. We envision a future where food, data and preventive healthcare work together to build healthier communities across Singapore and ASEAN. This partnership is an important step towards making that vision a reality.”

— Frankie Fan, CEO and Founder, BUZUD
