In an era defined by the meteoric surge of technological progress, the very fabric of our economy, environment, and society is undergoing a breathtaking transformation. At the forefront of this wave of innovation is NanoMalaysia Berhad, a true pioneer in the realm of nanotechnology. Its website foresees advancements in this sector to shape the Electronic and Electrical (E&E) industry, to launch expansions in all its related sectors.

Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of NanoMalaysia, is well-armed to see this vision come to fruition. With a PhD. in Nanotechnology and Electronic/Electrical Engineering from the prestigious University College London, as well as being an Adjunct Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), he has the credentials one would need. He speaks to International Business Review on his commitment to furthering technological advancement.

“My appointment as President of the Asia Nano Forum for the term 2024-2026 has really solidified NanoMalaysia’s global presence in nanotechnology. I want to push us further, hence the ventures into various pioneering projects.

What I’m proudest of now is the Hydrogen-Electric Vehicle-Battery (HEBATT) project.
This is a flagship initiative under my leadership, unveiled through a soft launch on 21 July 2022, by the then Minister of Science Technology and Innovation, YB Dato’ Sri Dr Adham Baba.

The HEBATT Power of Nano

We have moved to respond to the surging demand in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
To that end, I’m pleased to be collaborating with HyperTech Industries Sdn Bhd and International Battery Center (IBC) Sdn Bhd for the groundbreaking HEBATT project.

Our objective is to pioneer cutting-edge research and development in energy storage, with a focus on enhancing the performance of Graphene-infused Lithium-ion and Aluminium-ion batteries. These are game-changers, as they’re capable of offering three to five times greater energy density, while simultaneously being lighter, faster to charge, as well as boasting an extended lifespan. NanoMalaysia aims to unveil an innovative prototype in 2025.

It’s not simply about promising a greener future for energy storage. I want to enable Malaysia to become a hub, a pioneer, in cutting-edge, eco-friendly technologies. For that, we need a robust local ecosystem, which I want to establish through HEBATT. The journey into the nanotech frontier is more than just a professional endeavour; it is my commitment to help shape the future of technology, sustainability, and innovation.

The miracle of the small is unfolding, and it starts with NanoMalaysia.
