Engineering innovations remains the cornerstone of regional connectivity and economic transformation. Recognising the megaprojects, specialised contractors and technical breakthroughs reshaping the nation’s transport landscape, the Engineering Excellence in Transport category at the Transport Expo Asia (TXA) Awards 2026 highlighted the multi-faceted engineering capabilities driving modern mobility.

The inaugural awards were officially presented on 22 October 2026 at the TXA Awards Gala Dinner, held at the Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown. Organised as a finale of Transport Expo Asia 2026 and hosted under the auspices of Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport, the landmark expo took place from 20 to 22 October 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), gathering 410 participating companies from 23 countries.

Overcoming Technical Boundaries Across Complex Terrains

Engineering excellence in modern transport extends far beyond basic construction; it demands precise technical execution under extreme spatial, geological, and operational constraints. Across Peninsular and East Malaysia, transportation infrastructure projects face diverse environmental challenges—ranging from dense urban corridors and intricate water utility protection to tunneling through steep mountain ranges and constructing maritime freight gateways. The Engineering Excellence award was established to recognise organisations that successfully bridge complex civil engineering, sustainable material design, and advanced technology integration to build resilient, long-term transport networks.

Strategic Engineering Contributions Across Malaysia

The shortlisted contenders for the Engineering Excellence category demonstrated an impressive spectrum of technical accomplishments across rail, maritime, and smart logistics infrastructure.

  1. GreenFinder Sdn Bhd: The company specialises in maritime technology, including Aids to Navigation (AtoN), AIS tracking, Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), coastal surveillance and environmental monitoring, and is an Industrial Member of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA). Its locally developed Automatic Remote Monitoring System (ARMS) replaces manual inspection of lighthouses, beacons and buoys with continuous remote monitoring from a single central platform. Since 2017, ARMS has expanded to cover more than 500 locations across Malaysia, giving early warning of faults while remaining reliable in harsh marine conditions.
  2. Jaya Coastal Shipping Sdn Bhd: The homegrown Malaysian company has taken on a challenge to manage its ageing fleet. Through its Engineering Operational Excellence Programme, it has successfully reduced vessel downtime, increased fleet availability, completed more maintenance, resolved more technical issues and even improved fuel efficiency.
  3. Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL): The company oversees the construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL). The project links Malaysia’s east coast to the Klang Valley in the west. Its construction involves crossing some of the most challenging terrain, from flood plains to forested ridges. The project has since earned MRL recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for its engineering feats.
  4. Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp): The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is considered its most demanding project to date. The project had to be delivered under COVID-19 conditions, in addition to its construction environment over an operating KTM railway, urban infrastructure, live utilities and down to even managing environmental conditions like the tides.
  5. RC Asia Engineering Sdn Bhd: The company’s work for Perlis Inland Port has garnered it the finalist shortlisting for this category. It consists of constructing and completing the trackworks for the port’s container yard, running three lines, and constructed in layers utilising specialist material sourced from multiple countries, laying the groundwork to give the port’s rail freight terminal room to expand further.

Celebrating Category Victory: Malaysia Rail Link (MRL)

While all five nominees showcased groundbreaking contributions, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) emerged as the winner of the Engineering Excellence in Transport category for its management and execution of the transformative East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) mega-project.

Accepting the prestigious trophy on behalf of MRL was Dato’ Sri Darwis Abdul Razak, Chief Executive Officer. Reflecting on the monumental scale of the railway project during his speech, Dato’ Sri Darwis expressed deep gratitude to his team:

“I am thankful to accept this award on behalf of the large family of East Coast Rail Link Sdn Bhd. ECRL has been one of the most challenging projects that has been done in Malaysia yet, and this would not have been possible without the team. I hope to see the results of our efforts when ECRL officially begins service in December 2026.”

Building the Future of Regional Infrastructure

The achievements highlighted in the Engineering Excellence category reaffirm Malaysia’s growing capacity to plan, engineer, and execute world-class infrastructure projects. As the nation approaches key milestones—including the targeted operational rollout of mega-developments like the ECRL in late 2026—the benchmark set by MRL and its fellow finalists proves that innovative engineering remains the bedrock of sustainable economic growth and regional connectivity.

Congratulations once again to all our TXA Awards 2026 winners! The next edition of both the expo and the awards will be in 2028. Transport Expo Asia 2026 was organised by Alpine Integrated Solution while the TXA Awards 2026 was curated by the IBR Asia Group.
